Introducing the Good Skin Squad, a new blog series featuring conversations with real people about their skin journey and everything acne.
To start things off, we checked in with brand ambassadors featured in the launch of our latest: Micro-Pore Mist. In honor of our one-spritz wonder, we asked them questions on everything skin care and how to love your skin through wherever you are in your skin journey. Next is Joshua Specks (@joshuaspecks), talented content creator and total MOOD.
first off, tell us about your skin!
My skin type is combination, which means having oily skin in some areas and dry skin in other areas. I get really oily around my tea zone area and I’m more dry on my cheeks.walk us through your daily skincare routine please! we LOVE details…
My skin care routine has a lot of steps. When I’m wearing make up, the first step is an oil-based cleanser and after that I’m going with my Clear Start Breakout Clearing Foaming Wash. The next step is toner, I use the Clear Start Micro-Pore Mist, it works so well and it has some of my favorite ingredients in it. Next to serums, and I go in with a hyaluronic acid serum, a vitamin C serum, and vitamin A niacinamide serum. Next, to moisturize, and then the last step is sunscreen and I like to use moisturizer with SPF 30 as my sunscreen
how do you stay confident when your skin is breaking out or getting you down, any tips?
Taking care of yourself is always important and that’s what I feel like skin care is, so when I get breakouts, ways that I stay confident during those breakouts is doing my skin care routine. And every time I do my skin care routine I look in the mirror, and I’m just like “wow even though I do have this blemish, I still look really pretty “ so remember to hype yourself up!
any favorite skincare ingredients?
I love hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.
biggest myth you'd like to bust about acne?
Just because the product is expensive does not mean it’s going to work.
craziest thing you've done to try and treat a breakout?
This is gonna sound so crazy, but before I got into skin care, if I would get a pimple I would literally douse my face in rubbing alcohol. (editor's note: it goes without saying, but don't do this! we all live and learn. 😉)
how has your skin changed over time? did that affect your routine?
My skin has changed so much since getting into skin care. The fine lines and wrinkles and hyper pigmentation are gone. And the love that I have for myself has risen.
what is your absolute must-have in a skincare routine that people may be missing?
Absolute must have is the Micro-Pore Mist. It has so many amazing ingredients such as niacinamide, green tea and cucumber extract, which all help the appearance of pores and brighten the skin.
how do you select skincare products for your routine when there is so much out there? any advice?
When selecting products for your skin care routine, remember your skin's needs and remember to do your research. Watch reviews, go on YouTube, watch people that have the same skin concerns as you, and also go to a dermatologist.
